Mary Mongold

Mary R. Bell Mongold, 91, of Hummelstown, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, in the Spring Creek Care Center, Harrisburg. Born in Mill Creek on April 13, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Rebecca Yocum Bell. Mary was a devoted homemaker; and co-owned with her late husband the former Mongold’s Restaurant in Hershey for ten years. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hummelstown, and former member of the church’s Ruth Circle. Mary was President of the Hummelstown Senior Center for five years; and a member of the Farm Women Group #5, Hummelstown. She enjoyed doing crafts and playing bingo. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ira R. Mongold, on May 25, 1995; two sons, Paul A. Mongold on September 5, 1962, and Leonard A. Mongold, husband of Gail Mongold of Hummelstown, on September 17, 1997; and three brothers, LeRoy Bell, Blair Bell and Gerald Bell. She was the beloved mother of daughter, Joyce I. Givler of Hummelstown, and sons, Robert I. Mongold (Yvonne) of Mill Hall, Russell E. Mongold (Joyce), Dennis C. Mongold, and Larry D. Mongold (Judy) all of Hummelstown, Kenneth E. Mongold (Madeline Muscarella) of Tonawanda, NY, and Barry L. Mongold (Pam) of Harrisburg. She is also survived by two brothers, Chester Bell of Millersburg and Ellis Bell of Carlisle; three sisters, Martha McGowan of Landisburg, Janet Heisey of Perry Village, and Ruth McGowan (Gerald) of Millerstown; 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 1, 2010, at 11 AM in St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 850 Hill Church Road, Hummelstown, with The Rev. George M. Minick, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Sand Hill Church Cemetery, Hummelstown. Friends are invited to the viewing in the church’s narthex on Monday from 10 AM until time of the service. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elder Express, P.O. Box 104, Hummelstown, PA 17036.
