Dorothy Ann Daane, 87, of Gibbsville, passed away on Wednesday night, May 10, 2017, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. Dorothy was born on January 4, 1930, in Fond du Lac, daughter of Lawrence and Frances (Chase) McGown. She was a 1948 graduate of North High School in Wichita, Kansas and attended Fond du Lac Business College. On November 14, 1953, she married Lester J. Daane in Fond du Lac. Lester passed away on May 10, 1977, exactly 40 years to the date of her death. Dorothy was employed as an administrative secretary with the Sheboygan County Comprehensive Health Care Center for 27 years until her retirement in 1994. Dorothy was a member of Gibbsville Reformed Church where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Society and the Tuesday morning Bible coffees. She was formerly a member of the Homemakers Club and enjoyed various card clubs over the years. She enjoyed reading, golfing, card playing, traveling, swimming, shooting guns, shopping, fishing, word and jigsaw puzzles. Dorothy especially enjoyed spending time at Kohler-Terry Andre Park, and the lakefront. She cherished time with her family and friends. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Daane of Sheboygan Falls and Judy (Jan) Soerens of Gibbsville; her son, Andy Daane of Gibbsville; six grandchildren, Christine (friend Ryan Eberle) Sutherland, Kimberly Sutherland Zastrow, Kelly (fiancé Brad Loberger) Pritzl, Elizabeth Pritzl, Matthew Daane, and Aleyda Daane; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Xavier, and Aiden; one sister, Nancy Eckstein of Nenah; a godson, Daniel Steiner; other nieces and nephews, and numerous dear and longtime friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Lester, two sisters, Helen (Alex) Zabolski, Marian (Fred )Triatik, one sister-in-law, Lucille (Delmar) Dana, and three brothers-in-law, Dan Steiner, Jim Eckstein, and Willard (Janet) Daane. A funeral service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, May 16, 2017at the Gibbsville Reformed Church with Rev. Dan Krueger officiating. Burial will take place at Gibbsville Cemetery in the Town of Lima. Relatives and friends may gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 4-8 pm, and on Tuesday, at church from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30 am. A memorial fund has been established in Dorothy’s name for the Adell Senior Center- Home Delivery Meals and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center.
