Glenn Braaten

Glenn Russel Braaten passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on July 19, 2016. He was born on Feb. 24, 1924, in Emerado, N.D., to Peter Hans Braaten and Josephine (Anderson) Braaten. Glenn entered the United States Army as an infantryman in 1943. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and seen combat in Luzon Southern Philippines, New Guinea, and Bismarck Archipelago. He earned several medals, including a Bronze Service Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Medal with two Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. Glenn was honorably discharged in 1945, with the rank of Tech 5 and then moved to Aberdeen. Glenn met and married the love of his life Ruby K. Doll on Oct. 5, 1950, and together they raised six children. Glenn loved playing cards, traveling with his wife, bowling, gardening, playing guitar, singing and most of all spending time with all his family and friends. Glenn also attended and was a member of Harbor City Church in Aberdeen. He was a member of the Cement Masons and Plasterers Union for over 60 years; 40 years being with Union Local #528. Locally he worked for J.M. Randich, Rognlin's Inc., and numerous other companies. He is survived by his children; Nancy (Gary) Barnett, Glenna (Mike) Rand, Raymond Braaten, Brian (Jean) Braaten, and Brenda Blue all of Aberdeen, grandchildren; Michael Barnett, Tiffany (Brian) Burkett, Brooke (Anthony) Bowman, Bradley (Monica) Braaten, Tyson (Jayme) Braaten, Trevor (Courtney) Braaten, Jason (Frank) Hopkins, Kyle Goings, Brandon Horn, Whitney Horn, Sally (Eric) Byrd, Lisa (Beto) Cruz, Stephanie (Jason) Ross, and 20 great-grandchildren. Glenn was preceded in death by wife, Ruby; daughter, Denise (Braaten) Ketzenberg; sisters, Lillian, Ethel, Mae, Hope, Dorothy, Marion and Leverne; and brothers, Edward, Anthony, Donald (Mike), Manuel (Manny), and Patrick. There will be a Celebration of Life for Glenn at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at Harbor City Church, 1700 Cherry Street in Aberdeen. Arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.
