Eugene Allen

Eugene Carlton Allen, age 75 of Mt. Airy, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Born July 12, 1936 in Habersham County, he was a son of the late Clyde and Bonnie Lockman Allen. Mr. Allen was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church, and proudly served in the United States Army. He enjoyed traveling to the mountains, eating sweets, fishing and was an animal enthusiast. In addition to his parents, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Steve Oliver, and sisters, Louise Sosebee and Ruby Lee Allen. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Louise Lathan Allen of Mt. Airy; daughter Jeanette Oliver of Mt. Airy; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Tammy Allen of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Hannah Allen of Clarkesville, and Rhonda and Marshell Parson of Maysville; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Trisha Parson; sister, Doris Hooper of Clarkesville; and brother, Earl Allen of Clarkesville. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Hazel Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Trent Smith and Rev. Billy Burrell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720, the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, and the Rabun County D.A.V. Chapter #15. The family will receive friends 4-6 pm on Friday, and 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Hazel Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 243 Hazel Creek Church Road, Mt. Airy, GA 30563.
