LaDawn Steckman

LaDawn Hagen Steckman, 71, passed away December 12, 2015, at her home in Yuma, Arizona. She was born August 7, 1944 at Salt Lake City, Utah, to Leon Hagen and Donna Mae Hagen. Her family relocated to Shelley, Idaho where she attended school and graduated from Shelley High School in 1962. After graduation she attended Beauty school and received her cosmetology license and would later own a salon in her home where she made many lasting friends. She also spent many years in the banking industry, starting with The Bank of Idaho, then First Interstate Bank and she retired from Wells Fargo in Challis, Idaho.  During her working years she also worked for Cable One and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She married Jay R. Larsen on December 14, 1963. They were later divorced. From this marriage she was blessed with three daughters, Shelley, Shawnie and Tara. They were the light of her life. On June 19, 1997 she married Craig C. Nelson in Carson City, Nevada. They spent two years together until his death on May 20, 1999. On November 22, 2000 she married Robert Steckman, “Her Bear”, as she would affectionately call him. They enjoyed fifteen years together first in Idaho Falls, then relocating to Challis, Idaho and finally settling in Yuma, Arizona. He was her strength as she fought cancer and he stayed at her side until her passing. LaDawn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many callings including Relief Society instructor and in the Sunday school. She made sure her three daughters had a firm foundation in the Gospel. Survivors include her husband, Robert Steckman of Yuma, Arizona; daughters, Shelley (Stan) Mills of Idaho Falls, ID, Shawnie (Darren) McGary of Highland, UT, Tara (Bruce) Rapp of Idaho Falls, ID, step daughters, Jackie (Barry) Blanchard of Valley Center, CA, and Julie (Greg) Peyton of Escondido, CA, her mother Donna Hagen, brothers, Sonny (Susan) Hagen and Gary (Debbie) Hagen, all of Idaho Falls, ID, 15 grandchildren and 9 great grand-children. She was preceded in death by her father and brother, Kevin J. Hagen. Graveside Services will be held Friday December 18, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Shelley-Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.
