Edward Harrry Heller

Edward Harry Heller - 92 Edward "Ed, Big Ed, Uncle Ed, Eddy, Dad, Grand Pop" Heller At nearly 93, most of Ed's close circle of friends for nearly 60 plus years have already passed and Ed joined them and his wife Myrt on Tuesday August 11, 2015. He will be remembered for so many wonderful kind things he did in his lifetime and all the lives he made better just for being a part of theirs. He never met a stranger and the mention of his name brings wonderful memories and smiles to every one that knew him. Ed passed peacefully surrounded by family. Ed was many things to many people. Always kind, with a quick gentle wit, open mind and heart, and loved being around others. Ed was born October 5, 1922 in Philadelphia PA and graduated from Audubon High School in NJ. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and proudly served his country in WWII until 1945. He was honorably discharged with Electrical Engineering skills which ultimately led him to own and operate Heller Electric, Inc until he retired in 1982. He met the love of his life, Doris Vonhofen, (Myrt) on the beaches in Wildwood, NJ during the summer of 1946 and they married shortly after in February 1947. They made a wonderful life together, filled with friends, fun and lots of laughter. Their first born was their son, Drake who came along one January 2nd (Happy New Year!) followed by their daughter Lynn a couple years later on May 1st . (Hooray, Hooray it's the first of May). They continued their active lives with friends and fun and included their children in all. Well, almost all. Ed and Myrt retired to Stone Harbor in 1982 and shared their love of golf, bowling, boating, trips to the casinos and generally sharing life together with their many friends and family. Dad's legendary tomato plants were the envy of all and the basis for friendly neighborhood competitions every summer. Their first Grandson Alex was born to Drake and his wife Amy followed by a granddaughter Julia also born to Drake and his wife. They are both amazing and were so loved by their grand pop. Doris (Myrt) passed in 1995 and Ed chose to remain in their Stone Harbor home which was his favorite place on earth with the most beautiful sunsets every day. Ed walked his daughter Lynn down the "Garden Isle" in Myrt's Memory Garden in Stone Harbor to marry Kevin Hastings in 2005. One of Dad's favorite questions about Kevin; "how's my boy ? ". A celebration of Ed's life will be in the near future and for now the family asks that in lieu of flowers please donate to Team Hastings - Heller High Water - Let's End Alzheimer's -- http://act.alz.org/site/TR/Walk2015/General?px=5524265&pg=personal&fr_id=7408 Lynn and Kevin Hastings along with thousands of others have been helping to do their part to help end Alzheimer's with their fundraising efforts since 2009. Even the smallest of donations is appreciated and if you can join the walk October 3, 2015 in FL please do or join your local Walk to End Alzheimer's and help raise awareness.
