Dr. James Jennings Fassinger Obituary

Dr. James Jennings Fassinger, 94, of 1871 Mercer-New Wilmington Rd., New Wilmington, Pa. died Tuesday afternoon May 20, 2008 at his residence. James was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on January 8, 1914 to Charles Fassinger and Mary Tischler.


Dr. Fassinger was a Partner in his family's business - C. Fassinger & Sons Manufacture Co. He also had a small private dental practice. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh & University of Pittsburgh Dental School in 1937 with high honors. He served on the staff at dental school teaching anatomy until he entered the military.


Dr. Fassinger entered the U.S. Army during WWII, served in the South Pacific, mainly in New Guinea as a dental surgeon. He was honorably discharged as a Major in 1953.


Dr. Fassinger was very family oriented and he enjoyed gardening as a gentleman farmer on his farm in New Wilmington, Pa.


Dr. Fassinger was a member of the Mary Mother of Hope Parish in New Castle.


Survivors include: two daughters, Janey Fassinger Lee, VMD and her husband John W. Lee, DVM of Rising Sun, Maryland and Elizabeth Fassinger of Meadville, Pa.; former wife, Elizabeth Smythe Brand of Rising Son, Maryland; one granddaughter Heather Wiley of New Wilmington, Pa.; great-granddaughters, Chloe Wiley, Willow Wiley, Paisley Wiley; great-granddaughters father Mark Wiley; and will be greatly missed by his two faithful dogs - Puppy and Daisy.


Preceding Dr. Fassinger in death: parents; three brothers, Charles Fassinger, Walter Fassinger and John Fassinger; and one sister, Clair Putman.


Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 27, 2008 from 5-8pm at Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 3000 Wilmington Rd. New Castle, Pa. A procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30am on Wednesday, May 28 for St. Mary Church, Mary Mother of Hope Parish for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am. Reverend Father Victor Molka, pastor will officiate. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.


Dr. Fassinger will be entombed at the Ressurection Mausoleum in New Castle, Pa.
