Penelopee Greene Denver, Colorado Obituary

Penelopee Greene

Penelopee Sue Greene, age 69, died on Wednesday, May 8th, 2019 in her Cherry Creek townhome surrounded by her loved ones. She was an only-child born just before Christmas of 1949 in Manhattan, NY to Stanley and Sara (Reinganum) Greene. After leaving New York, Penelopee attended the University of Denver and the University of Northern Colorado to receive a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Chemistry. She began her career teaching Science in several DPS schools for more than a decade, including Morey Middle School. Later in her life she reconnected with a couple of her Morey students, with whom she would embark upon her grandest accomplishment of being a mother to her adopted daughter Dana, and also make history by being the first single woman in Colorado to be granted the right to adopt a child. Penelopee went on to work as a Real Estate professional by being a Realtor, instructing Real Estate, being an expert witness for Real Estate litigation, and chairing the Ethics/Professional Standards Committee of the Denver Board of Realtors. She will be remembered as a strong, witty, and willful professional who gave time and resources to all those who needed her, especially through her work as a determined and loving advocate for children. Penelopee was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her daughter Dana Greene, son-in-law Aaron Tolsma, granddaughter Taylor Greene, cousins Douglas (Betty) Isaacson and Sydney (Clarke) Fidler, and her many beloved friends across the globe. A graveside service and interment will be held on Monday, May 13th, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Fairmount Cemetery, 430 S Quebec Street, Denver, with Rabbi Stephen Kaye officiating. The family will be hosting a reception following the service at their Cherry Creek Townhome. The Greene family would like to extend our immense gratitude and appreciation for Penelopee’s caregiver, Gina Yarrish, whose loving and extraordinary care made her a part of the family, as well as all the staff from Dignity Hospice for their kind and respectful care of Penelopee in the last month of her life. Memorial donations may be made in Penelopee’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
