Ethelee Smith

Ethelee Ray Smith, 84, died September 9, 2016. Lee was born November 26, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to John (Johnie) and Ethel (nee Sudduth) Ray. She graduated from Northeast High School at age 16 and went on to get her B.S. from University of Missouri (Phi Beta Kappa). She obtained her MD from Washington University in 1955 (Alpha Omega Alpha.) She went on to complete a residency in anesthesia at the University of Kansas School of Medicine where she met and later married Dennis H. Smith. She later went on to practice anesthesia at the Cleveland Clinic for 35 years. Lee was an active member of the Altar Guild and Daughters of the King in the Episcopal Church, both at St. Albans in Cleveland Heights and then at St. James in Painesville. Ethelee was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She is survived by her husband Dennis; her children Margaret (Michael Strahinic), Ethel (Scott Bowen), Dennis (Abigail), and Antonia (Gerald Malnar); her grandchlldren Jennifer, Michael, Dennis, Melanie, Nicholas, Jacob, Carys, James, and Samuel; her brother Johnie Ray and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 131 N. State St., Painesville on September 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Lake Humane Society, 7564 E. Tyler Blvd., Mentor, Ohio 44060 or St. James Episcopal Church, Painesville. Arrangements by Johnson Funeral Home, Painesville.
