Helen Goida

Helen Goida passed away, after a brief illness, on September 28, 2016. She was the last surviving child of Stephen and Patricia Walascuk and was born in Dorothy, New Jersey on November 3, 1923. She and her seven siblings were first-generation Americans. Helen is survived by her two children, Jeanne and Robert, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. We will all remember her love. After years on the farm in Dorothy, Helen enlisted in the Women’s Air Corps in June of 1944 and served her country until June of 1946. She married her husband Harry in 1946 and settled in Hicksville, New York, where they raised their family. After retirement, Helen and Harry moved to Phoenix, Arizona, for the warmer weather. There they were able to enjoy watching their grandchildren grow, get married and have children of their own. Her greatest joy was speaking with and spending time with her great-grandchildren. Services with military honors will be held on October 11, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the National Cemetery of Arizona, where she will be laid to rest with Harry who passed away in 2013. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85014, www.hov.org.
