John "J.C." Roman

Mr. John “J.C.” Roman, age 79, of the Campbell Hollow road section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Thursday (February 13, 2020) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born July 9, 1940 in Grundy, Virginia, he was a son of the late Joe and Niada Honaker Roman. He had spent most of his life in the Russell County area and was a graduate of Honaker High School. He had proudly served his country in the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. He had formerly been employed as a brakeman with Norfolk and Southern Railroad, retiring after twenty-nine years. He enjoyed turkey hunting and fishing, but most of all spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Hubert Roman, and three sisters, Dolly Whited, Shelby Munsey, and Lorene McGlothlin. Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Dorothy Roman of the home; two sons, Mike Roman and wife, Barbara, and Rick Roman all of Honaker; three grandchildren, Nicole Roman of Roanoke, Kiana Roman and fiancé, Blake Stinson of Honaker, and Ben Roman of Big Stone Gap; one sister, Louise Cook and Glen of Honaker; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Stephen Musick officiating. Entombment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon, Virginia. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Steve McGlothlin, Ben Roman, Bill Hubbard, Larry McGlothlin, Jay Howard, and Kermit Artrip. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Tunnel Hill Free Will Baptist, 22 Tunnel Road, Honaker, Virginia 24260 or Finney Baptist Church, 1966 Chestnut Road, Honaker, Virginia 24260. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Monday.
