Mrs. Mary Christina Gleeson (nee Mooney) passed away February 14, 2020 after a brave battle with cancer, she was surrounded by her family. Her joy was her Catholic faith, her family and her home. Mary Christina was born December 23rd, 1940 in Knockadoon, Irishtown, Co. Mayo, Ireland. She was the eldest child of the late Patrick and Margaret Mooney. Mary graduated from the Kilvine National School followed by education at the Presentation Convent in Tuam Co. Galway, Ireland and received training in typing and stenography. Upon concluding her education, Mary worked at an attorney's office in Ballindine, Co. Mayo. Mary left Ireland at the age of 19 and immigrated to New York where she worked as the secretary to the president of Manufacturers Bank before becoming a mother and housewife. Mary was a long time resident of the Bronx. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brother Johnny. Mary is survived by her loving husband David of 48 years and her children Marie, Denis, David and Carol; daughter-in-law Melissa and son-in-law Eugene; her siblings: Josephine, Margaret, Kathleen, Michael, Eileen and Anne; proud grandmother of James, Devon, Charlotte and Sierra. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 from 2:00 - 4:00 & 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. in Hodder Farenga Funeral Home, 899 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 10:45 A.M. in St. Barnabas Church, Bronx, NY Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation to the Cancer Research Institute (NYC) cancerresearch.org
