Frank Joseph Trotta Obituary

Mr. Frank J. Trotta, 91, passed away Thursday, February 13, at home with his children by his side. A Native of Mount Vernon, New York, Mr. Trotta was the elder of two sons born to Joseph and Palma Trotta. He was a graduate of Edison Technical and Vocational High School in Mount Vernon, and subsequently attended Westchester Community College in White Plains, New York; then The Bernard Baruch School of Business and The Management Institute, both at New York University in Manhattan. Mr. Trotta joined the New York National Guard in the mid-1940’s and became a member of the Military Police Company of the 42nd Infantry Division. He advanced through various positions over his tenure, and after 12 years of dedicated service, he received an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Staff Sergeant assigned to the Provost Marshall’s Office as an Assistant Criminal Investigator. In 1953, Mr. Trotta began working for a major pharmaceutical company, Burroughs Wellcome Co., (USA), located in Tuckahoe, New York. This employment would be a major turning point in his life, both professionally and personally. He started as a clerk in the controlled substances division, maintaining inventory control and reporting such in adherence to strict federal requirements. He rose through various positions of increasing responsibility, all in the realm of production and inventory control. In the mid-1950s, he met a charming secretary with smiling Irish eyes and was completely smitten. Dorothy Frances Spratt was the love of his life, and they married at the Monastery Church of the Sacred Heart in Yonkers, New York, in 1960. They were blessed with two beautiful children and made their home in Westchester County until the total relocation of Burroughs Wellcome from New York to North Carolina in 1970. Mr. Trotta ended his career as a supervisor in the Planning and Scheduling Department, and retired from Burroughs Wellcome in 1989 after more than 36 years of steadfast service. He was a 50-year dedicated parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church and shared his talents through many volunteer efforts there. He will be remembered for his love of gardening and yard work, his innate ability to build just about anything, and his quick wit and dry sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy; his loving parents Palma and Joseph; his dear brother, Russell; and numerous extended family members and close friends. He is survived by his daughter, Ann Marie Trotta, of Williamsburg, Virginia; and his son Robert Scott Trotta, with wife Kelly, and grandchildren Nicholas and Lauryn, all of Greenville. His grandchildren were the light of his life and brought him immense joy in his later years. No “Pop-Pop” was ever prouder. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 17, 6-8 p.m. at the Wilkerson Funeral Home. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Tuesday, February 18, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Greenville. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church in Greenville or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis,Tennessee.
