Celia Verniece Hill Black, 93, of Athens, died Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Life Care Center of Athens. She would have been 94 on March 2nd. She was the daughter of the late W.T. and Cordie Hicks Hill. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm L. Black, two sons Kenneth and Steve Black, and several brothers and sisters. Celia was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church of Athens. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She has impacted the lives of us all with her Faith, Tenderness, Compassion, Unconditional Love for all and always willing to go above and beyond for all of us. She is survived by a daughter, Cathey (Phil) Rowland of Chattanooga; two sons, Sam (Brenda) Black of Athens and Gary (Cindy) Black of Hendersonville, NC; daughter-in-law, Henrietta Black of Athens; nine grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pearline Buckner of Danville, VA, and Pauline Lowe of Hickory, NC. A funeral service will be conducted, 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Wendt officiating. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00am-1:30pm Sunday prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Patrick Black, Preston Black, Dustyn Rowland, Sammy Black, Stevie Black, Chandler Hopkins, Dalyn Irons, Kanen Roberts, and Kobie Yarber.
