Martha Byrd

Martha Ann Byrd was born on November 26, 1951 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Andor Deforest and Margaret Watkins Byrd. She attended Golfcrest School and Park Place School prior to coming to the Mexia State Supported Living Center. Most of the time, Martha enjoyed talking with the staff throughout her daily activities and occasionally interacting with her peers. Her favorite song was Jesus Loves Me, which she sang for her sister at a memorial service in the campus Chapel. Martha’s favorite foods were hamburgers, pepperoni pizza, her dogs and peanut butter cookies. Activities that represented happiness to her were as follows: Going shopping at Walmart Going out to eat at Dairy Queen, Pizza Hut and Golden Corral Going to camp Rip, socializing and watching people Listening to country music, watching TV and movies Going to the Beauty Shop to get her hair and nails done Always having a purse to carry Playing cards and visits and letters from family Drinking Dr. Pepper and Diet Coke Martha had recently been a resident of Peace of Mind Care Group in Houston where she had become known as the light of the party. She will be remembered as a sweet person with a beautiful smile. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Judy Darlene Norwood. Martha is survived by her brothers, Mike Byrd, Ron Byrd and Larry Atkins, Nephews, Timmy, Steve and Darren Byrd, Nieces, Missy Byrd and Danyel Byrd and by many other relatives and friends.
