Edith Marsh

Edith Marie Marsh, 95, of Chesapeake, Virginia passed away peacefully, February 5th, 2020 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Edith was born January 23rd, 1925 in Plymouth, Massachusetts to the late Prentice Brigham Childs and Emily Marie Childs. Growing up on a farm in Manomet, Massachusetts she found a true appreciate and love of animals, birds, flowers, and nature all together. She later moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan. Edith, alongside her husband of 17 years Robert Marsh Sr. Together, they operated “Pizza Bobs”. Known for their legendary pizzas on the University of Michigan Campus in Ann Arbor. She was often called the “Pizza Babe” alongside “Pizza Bob” himself. After moving to Virginia Beach in 1999 to live with her daughter, Sharon Shuler, son-in-law, Jeff and grandson Nathan Jeffrey Shuler; she stayed active and young at heart. She would often volunteer at the Virginia Beach SPCA and the Chesapeake SPCA. She was a longtime member of the Norfolk Botanical Gardens where she spent many afternoons with her family and friends. Edith was also a longtime member Greenbrier family Y.M.C.A.; and was part of the active older adults for the past 19 years. Later in life she enjoyed a good Word Search and always had a good book close by. Although, life wasn’t kind to her at times, she never became cynical or critical of anyone. Edith loved her family and people in general. She looked for the best in people and would go the extra mile for anyone in need. Edith will always be remembered for her kind, forgiving nature with a smile that could light up any room. Left to cherish her memory are: Son, Robert Marsh, Jr and wife Michelle of Williamsburg, Ohio; Daughter, Sharon Shuler and husband Jeff of Chesapeake, Virginia; Daughter, Audrey Goetz and husband Tom of Pinckney, Michigan; Son, William “Bill” Marsh and wife Karla of Somerset, Texas; Son, Roger B. Foster of Bangor, Maine; Sister, Harriet Schauer of Cocoa beach Florida (who is 98 years young); Many grandchildren: Nathan Shuler, Robert Marsh III, Kristin Bauer, Justin Bauer, Kortney Pilliteri,(Rob), Steven Farha (Alex), Tommy Goetz (Coleen), Amanda Goetz, Brandon Goetz (Kellie) Jacob Marsh (Darcy) and Alex Marsh, Jarrod Goetz and Krissy Goetz. Many great-grandchildren: Evan, Leah, Ava, Noah and Valyn. Edith is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Marsh Sr.; parents, Prentice Brigham Childs and Emily Marie Childs; brother, Prentiss Childs; brother, Walter Childs; and sister, Alice Grennel. A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 pm, Monday, February 10th, 2020 at Great Bridge Community Church. 173 Mt. Pleasant Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322.
