Ricky Campbell

Ricky Darwin Campbell, age 59, of 1415 Carroll Street, died December 3, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. His body has been cremated. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Central Christian Church with Rev. Gary Sneller officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Boone Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church and visit with the family on Saturday from 9 a.m. to service time. Ricky was born in Ames, Iowa, on November 10, 1953, the son of Carrol and Phyllis (Trickle) Campbell. He graduated from Gilbert High School in 1972. Ricky then served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On January 19, 1996, Ricky married Shelly (Moran) Olson in Ames. He was employed as a crane operator for Ames Crane Rental & Rigging. Ricky retired in September of 2011. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #817, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #104. Ricky enjoyed camping, golf, cooking, NASCAR, and bowling. He especially enjoyed driving his stock and modified #19c race cars at the Boone Speedway. He enjoyed attending Indy Car Races to watch his son who is a member of the Michael Andretti Race Team. Ricky is preceded in death by his mother and a son Mathew Campbell. He is survived by his wife Shelly of Boone; his father Carrol Campbell of Boone; a son Ricky Campbell and wife Cheryl of Carmel, Indiana; three daughters, Michelle Campbell of Story City, Allison Wetzeler and husband Rob of Norwalk, and DaNeil Olson of Boone; a brother Steve Campbell of Nevada; 11 grandchildren, Joshua Norris, Layden Verville, Haylee Dolph, Courtney and Drew Vesely, Dane Campbell, Riley and Emmalynn Hurt, and Gracie, Charlie, and Cooper Wetzeler; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Linda and Jim Hodges of Boone. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall is in charge of arrangements.
