Stephen Sperlak

Stephen Sperlak, Jr, age 59, died of cancer on January 13, 2018 at his home in Estell Manor, NJ with his family and friends by his side. Steve was born on February 21, 1958 in Cape May Court House, NJ. He and his family lived in various places throughout the United States while his father was a member of the Coast Guard. The family returned to New Jersey where Steve graduated from Middle Township High School in Cape May County, NJ. After high school Steve obtained his captain’s license, commercial divers license and his superintendent’s license. He also attended Rutgers University for various courses. His working career included working on several area commercial fishing boats, working as a diver, and he was lastly and proudly employed as the Public Works Superintendent for the city of Mullica Township, NJ. Over Steve’s lifetime he received many awards and citations. He was a member of the Unity Lodge F&AM #96 and was a former volunteer firefighter. He was a life time member of the Bayshore Sportsman Club. He was a generous kind man who helped many people. He enjoyed trips to Maine to go hunting and fishing with his brother-in-laws and always loved being on the water. Steve is survived by his wife Jane, his brothers Thomas Linell, Stan Sperlak and William Payne, his sister Patricia Ann Mesaros and his stepson Jonathan Gasson. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Marguerite Gaudet. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Sperlak, Sr and Patricia Ann Sperlak. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Boakes Funeral Home, Inc., 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ. Family and friends may gather from 10-11:30 AM; a Masonic service will be held at 11:30 followed by a catholic service at 11:45. The family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice and the Nazha Cancer Center for their care of Steve during his illness. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, Attn: Development Dept., 2009 Bacharach Blvd., P.O. Box 5358, Atlantic City, NJ 08404 or a charity of your choice.
