Herbert Ralph Schott, age 87, of Grosse Pointe Park died on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Beaumont Hospital- Grosse Pointe. Herb was born on January 28, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Frank Martin and the late Ida Marie (nee: Drouin) Schott. Herbert was born and raised in Detroit. His family raised various animals including Goats, Cows, and Rabbits. He graduated from Lakeshore High School. Herb served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. His service took him all over the country and world to various places including San Diego, Korea and Japan. After proudly serving his country, Herb became a maintenance carpenter at General Dynamics. He spent most of his time working at the Detroit Arsenal. He worked at the company for over 30 years before finally retiring. After Herb retired, he worked various jobs such as a Limo Driver, at Home Depot, and as a self-employed carpenter. He was wonderful about using his carpentry skills to help others. He enjoyed wood working and would teach some group classes at his church, Cornerstone Baptist. Herb was a man of great faith. He was a very active member of his church. He was a member of ABF Bible Group as well as many other bible studies. Herb’s sister, Mary Katherine, introduced him to the love of his life, Marion, in 1976. The two lived in wedded bliss until Marion passed in December of 2019. Herb was a family man. He enjoyed bowling and even bowled a couple ‘300’ games. He kept up on bowling until he turned 85. He was also a Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also was a member of the Eagles Drill Team. Marion and Herb also enjoyed camping together. He was a member of the Caravaners Camping Group. He was extremely passionate about football. Herb was a die-hard Lion’s fan even through the difficult years. Herb was the loving husband of the late Marion Schott. Dear step-father of William (Mary) Youngblood, Richard (Gina) Youngblood, Catherine (Art) Serafinski, Diane (Paul) McDonald, and Jeanne (Mark) Bedenko. Loving grandpa of Laura Youngblood, Emily Youngblood, Daniel Youngblood, Ashley Youngblood, Raymond Youngblood, Kristen Serafinski, Rachel Serafinski, Meghan (Adam) Strpko, Lauren McDonald, John Paul McDonald, Jessica Bedenko, Matthew Bedenko, Casey Bedenko and Kyle Bedenko. Cherished great-grandpa of Thomas Strpko and Lucas Strpko. Cherished uncle of Steven (Arleen) Matthes, Linda (Mike) Sorgeloos, and Pauline (Ken) Nofs. Beloved great-uncle of 8. He was also a great-great uncle of 4 boys of which the oldest just became a United States Marine.Predeceased by his sister, Mary Katherine Stahl. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5 from 5-8 pm at Chas. Verheyden Inc- Duross Chapel, 28499 Schoenherr Rd., Warren MI 48088. The family will receive guests on Thursday, February 6 from 10 am until the time of his Funeral Service at 11 am at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 17017 E 12 Mile Rd, Roseville MI 48066.
