Alfred Jonckheere Tillsonburg, Ontario Obituary

Alfred Jonckheere

Passed away, suddenly, but peacefully, on Friday, January 24th, 2020, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, Alfred (Fred) Jonckheere a resident of Langton in his 83rd year. Born in Belgium. Fred was Proprietor of Jonckheere Motors (Volvo) Dealership Langton. The Jonckheere family has been engaged in automotive sales since 1927 in Belgium and later still in 1952 in Canada for almost 100 years in total. Loved brother of Marie Claire (Grant McRorie), Mississauga, Dan Jonckheere (Louise Scott), Whistler, B.C., Hans Charles Jonckheere (Irene Slegers), London. Survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Charles Peter Jonckheere (2001) and Former Irene Eugenie (Dauwe) Jonckheere (1996). Also predeceased by a sister Monique Jonckheere (2005), a sister-in-law Dorothy (Moore) Jonckheere (1992), a sister-in-law Adriene (Eades) Jonckheere (2019). Fred was editor of an illustrated tree-identification book entitled Rare, Threatened, and Endangered Trees of Haldimand – Norfolk. It was published as a pocket field guide so that tree-markers and loggers could identify those Carolinian specimens that should be unharmed, because their rarity was of far greater value living than in their board feet. For decades, he worked tirelessly in other ways as a defender of trees and forests, both with colleagues in the Norfolk Field Naturalists, and later, independently. In keeping with Fred’s wishes only cremation has taken place. The MAURICE J. VERHOEVE FUNERAL HOMES – BURIAL AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 40 Queen Street, Langton (519) 842-4238 has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Memorial donations to the “Sunshine Foundation of Canada” would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
