Gerald H. Witt

Gerald H. Witt, age 73, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at The Villa at Rose City. He was a West Branch resident for over 40 years, formerly of the East Detroit/Warren areas. Gerald was born on October 23, 1946 in Detroit to August and Mary Phyllis (Dillon) Witt. He attended East Detroit High School and after graduating, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. After he returned home from the war, he went to work for Uniroyal. Gerald married Vickie Popp of Redford in 1980 and they moved to the West Branch/Clear Lake Area. He was hired as a machinist at Olofsson’s and later co-founded S & W Machine with Mark Steinhurst as his business partner. He was a member of the West Branch Country Club and liked golfing, water skiing, and was an avid outdoorsman. Gerald was also a huge falcon fan and enjoyed attending Ogemaw Heights High School sporting events. Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Vickie Witt of West Branch; daughter, Natalee Witt of the Chicago area; son, Edward Witt of the Chicago area; and sisters, Kathleen Shpilia of Richmond and Jean (James) Wenzloff of Port Huron. He is preceded in death by his parents. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held later this summer.
