Eugene Charles, Sr., 74, of Newark, N.J., passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at St. Michael's Medical Center in Newark. Eugene was a lifelong resident of Newark. He was a correctional officer at Northern State Prison in Newark, where he worked for several years. Eugene was the beloved husband of 41 years to Shirley Charles; loving father of Sophia Edmonds, Eugene Charles Jr., Jarrod Charles, and Kevin Charles; cherished stepfather of Anthony Cotten, and dear brother of Katie Greenfield and Steve Charles. He is also survived by five grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
