Majorie Patricia Munro “Pat”, 100 years young, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away on December 13, 2025, in the comfort of her home at Peaks to Pines Seniors Lodge surrounded by people who loved and cared for her.

Pat was born in Calgary, Alberta on March 17, 1925. She was grateful for her St. Patrick’s Day arrival, preferring “Patricia” to “Marjorie” as her namesake. Pat was the eldest child of George and Ethel Harley. She was raised in Calgary, alongside her younger sister, Marillyn, and two brothers, Gerry and Denny.

Pat attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton, earning a BScN in Public Health in 1947. She was one of the last surviving members of this class, an extraordinary group of women who remained connected throughout their lives. Nurses training was demanding and from this shared experience, friendships were formed that were foundational to how they lived and cared for others throughout their lives.

She met her future husband, Gordon Munro, on a blind date. He was an aspiring accountant from Ottawa, Ontario. Smitten with each other, they didn’t waste any time and married on August 8, 1953. They grew a family of six children and resided in Calgary, Fort McMurray and the Crowsnest Pass with regular summer vacations at their beloved Kootenay Lake. Family was her guiding principle and at the core of all she did from beautifully crafted meals to homemade gifts, love was the central ingredient.

Pat was a storyteller! This gift was at the heart of her many friendships. She noticed things and remained curious despite the isolation that aging inevitably brings. Pat loved animals; she loved reading a good book; she was moved by beautiful music. Oil and watercolour painting, quilting and pottery kept her hands busy and heart full. Our family remains deeply grateful for the blessing of her long life, and we will hold her cherished memory in every story shared, warm hug and gentle touch.

“Mom, you may be gone from our sight, but you will always be in our hearts!”

Pat is survived by her children Barb (Gordon) Rigney, Glenn (Janeta) Munro, Joanne (Tony) Zezza, Judy Munro and Susan (Rick) Koentges. She also had 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; Lyndsey (Jack Robinson, Sunny) Spring; Craig (Gwendolyn) Munro; Jenny (Laney) Saunders; Teagan Zeggil; Samuel Munro; Ethan Munro; Stephanie Trudeau; Michael Trudeau; Kayla (Aiden, Odin) Brown; Jackie (Lennon) Kuftinoff-Thom; Lane (Winsley) Koentges; Bryan Koentges and Jared Koentges. In addition, her sister Marillyn Kliewer and her brother Gerry Harley, and many nieces and nephews. Pat was predeceased by her husband Gordon Munro, her son John Munro, her grandson Mark Koentges, her brother Dennis Harley, and her parents George and Ethel Harley.

The Munro family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many staff at the Crowsnest Pass Medical Clinic, especially to Dr. Rogers and Chelsea; the Home Care nurses from Community Health and, of course, the staff of Peaks to Pines for the exceptional care provided for our mother. In addition, thank you to our mother’s tablemates who befriended, supported and loved her during the daily meals and interactions that they shared together. We will remain forever grateful for the love and kindness from you all.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2026.
