She continued her education and received her bachelor’s degree from Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. Farlyn always prided herself in obtaining excellence and performing community service, which led her to become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and graduate as Magna Cum Laude in 1986 from Paine College.

Farlyn always had a passion for science and started her career as a biology teacher at Butler High School. She would later elevate to the position of research scientist working on numerous research projects at Veterans Affairs Research Lab. Medical publications were just a few of her accolades. She also was a part of groundbreaking research that would change the lives of many working on collaborative projects with the University of Georgia and Augusta University. Following her publications and numerous research projects, Farlyn eventually was promoted to the Assistant Biological Safety Officer of the Medical College of Georgia, later known as Augusta University. Throughout her career as a healthcare professional and published scientist, Farlyn also was an active member with the Jefferson County Board of Education for more than 12 years representing District 1.

Farlyn was not just a well accomplished scientist and philanthropist, she also was a daughter, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Farris and Jewel Hudson; her brother, Farris M, Hudson, Jr., and her brother-in-Law, Earl Williams Sr. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her children, Faraji T.
