David Lee Vogler, Sr., known affectionately as Dave, departed this world on September 14, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of service, wisdom, and love. Born on February 10, 1944, in Houston, Texas, Dave's journey through life was marked by an insatiable curiosity and a profound dedication to helping others.

Dave's early life in Houston and Corpus Christi laid the foundation for his diverse interests and his commitment to education. After graduating from Roy Miller High School, he pursued his passion for education and languages at Indiana University and the Defense Language Institute before earning an Associates of Applied Science in Public Information from the Community College of the Airforce, a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Corpus Christi State University and a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of North Texas. His academic achievements reflected his deep intelligence and his desire to understand and improve the world around him.

In the midst of his studies, Dave answered the call to serve his country. A 20-year veteran of the US Air Force, he worked as a public affairs technician and crypto linguist, specializing in Indonesian and Chinese languages. His military service took him on many adventures, but his heart remained with his family and community.

Upon returning to civilian life, Dave's innate creativity and thoughtfulness found new outlets. As a photojournalist and documentarian, he captured images and stories that touched the hearts of many. He reported for the South Jetty newspaper in Port Aransas, sharing the triumphs and trials of his local community with a keen eye and thoughtful prose.

But Dave's life's work truly centered on helping veterans and the disabled find and retain employment. He served as a Case Manager, Job Readiness Trainer, and Job Developer/Coach for the disabled. For 20 years, he served the State of Texas as a Veteran's Outreach Program Specialist and Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Facilitator at the Texas Workforce Commission and as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services. His tireless advocacy and support changed countless lives for the better. Even in retirement, he continued to guide service members transitioning from military to civilian life as a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Facilitator, as a government contractor.

Beyond his professional and charitable endeavors, Dave was a family man at heart. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Vogler, his children Vicki Ibarra (Javier), David Vogler, Jr., and Kelly Vogler (Alex Spoth), as well as six grandchildren, Jennifer Ibarra León, Marcos Ibarra, Rhys Ibarra, Madison Vogler, Sid Vogler, and Emily Spoth, as well as several great-grandchildren.

Dave's interests were as varied as his career. He enjoyed electronics, tinkering with new gadgets, and collecting. A tribute to his deep creativity and resourcefulness, he was often heard saying “we can use that for something.” Dave loved jokes, poetry, the written word, and diving into books that expanded his knowledge and perspective. Among his recent favorite pastimes was reading to his granddaughter, Emily, instilling in her the same love of words and stories that he himself cherished.

Throughout his life, Dave Vogler, Sr. exemplified what it means to live a life of purpose and passion. His legacy is one of unwavering commitment to family, country, and community. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
