<p>Charlene Mae Cowling, 77, of Richland Center died unexpectedly on Friday, September 12, 2025 at the UW Hospital in Madison. She was born on January 19, 1948, in Keyesville, one of fifteen children of Carl Sr. and Frances (Craig) Hicks. Charlene graduated from Richland Center High School in 1966. On May 15, 1977, she was united in marriage to Vernon ‘Jack’ Cowling, and he preceded her in death in June of 2016. Charlene was known for her sewing projects. She worked at O’Bryan Brothers in Richland Center for 31 years.</p><p><br></p><p>Charlene is survived by her daughter Vicky (Kelly) Sheafor;</p><p>Son: Tom (Val) Cowling;</p><p>Grandchildren: Kody (AJ) Sheafor, Kylie Sheafor;</p><p>Special great-grandson Theo;</p><p>Sisters: Sharon Pliner, Sandy (Jerome) Durst, Verlynn (Alan) Stowell, Sue (Lester) McBain, Betty (Shaun) Hatfield, Tina Taylor;</p><p>Brothers: LaVon (Hilda) Hicks, Terry Hicks, Steve (Sara) Hicks;</p><p>Many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.</p><p><br></p><p>Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, brothers and sisters: LaVerne Hicks, Mavis (Bill) Knight, Jim (Paula) Hicks, Carl (Janice) Hicks, Beverly Gundlach, brother-in-law Wilmer Pliner, sisters-in-law: Verna Joy (George) Marshall, Verla (Archie) Pauls.</p><p><br></p><p>A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel. A private family burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery at a later date. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.</p><p><br></p>
