<p>After a courageous battle with ALS, Joseph Albert Stuchal died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family on July 22, 2025. Joseph was born on October 17, 1947 to William and Mary (Vrsanksy) Stuchal. He was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, attending St. Edward High School.</p><p><br></p><p>In 1964, Joseph entered military service with the U.S. Air Force and attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. Prior to military service, he began his civilian role while working at the Medina County Parks and Recreation Department and would continue with them for 32 years. Joseph dedicated a total of 33 years to military service, and retired in 2003 as a Chief Master Sergeant with the Air Force.</p><p><br></p><p>Joseph and his wife, Chong, celebrated 35 years of marriage in June of this year. They were wholly devoted to each other and rarely spent time apart. Together they have two children, their daughter Min and son Joseph.</p><p><br></p><p>Joseph’s favorite things were being outside, and keeping busy with gardening and woodworking. He took great pride in the care of his home. He loved to cook and travel with his wife. Additionally, his granddaughter Ella brought great joy to his life.</p><p><br></p><p>Joseph will be best remembered for his willingness to help anyone, his quick humor, and his kindness. </p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his wife Chong Stuchal, children, Min Stuchal (Ryan Patalita) and Joseph Stuchal (Rhiannon), grandchild, Ella Johnson, and brothers and sisters, Thomas Stuchal (Mary Ann), William Stuchal (Linda), Steven Stuchal (Bonnie), Christine (Michael Cleary), and Timothy Stuchal (Margaret). He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. Joseph was preceded in death by his brother Francis Stuchal (Michelle) and sister Maryann (Charles Broffman).</p><p><br></p><p>A wake will be held at Carlson Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a prayer service starting at 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church on September 3, 2025, followed by burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. </p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s name to The ALS Association at www.als.org.</p>
