Allen R. Lewis
<p>Allen Lewis, age 83 of Kalamazoo, died on July 3, 2025. He was born on November 12, 1941, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Albert and Virginia Lewis. Allen was a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College with his master’s degree in mathematics and statistics. His first job was in biostatistics at the National Institute of Health and he later moved to Kalamazoo to work at the Upjohn Company. Over the years, he worked in management in telecommunications and in biostatistics. After retirement, Allen worked freelance assignments with several biostatistics companies.</p><p><br></p><p>On Saturday, September 3, 1966, Allen was united in marriage to Rueith Aubel, and they shared 51 wonderful years until her death. They had met in college on a blind date and married after five years of dating. The couple were blessed with two children and made many memories. The family spent time sailing on Lake Michigan, a sport that Allen loved. Allen and Rueith loved to travel and often visited National Parks, where he could use his passion for photography to capture nature.</p><p><br></p><p>Allen was an armchair engineer and spent many hours in his personalized workshop. Drawing on his childhood experience with his carpenter father, he built the first 2 houses the family resided in. He also enjoyed making furniture and other accessories for the house and the sailboat he spent many hours on. Allen always had an interest in model trains and even built a large-scale mountain railroad scene that encompassed half of his basement. He was also extensively involved with the local amateur radio club. During his time with the club, he served as treasurer and conducted classes.</p><p><br></p><p>Allen is survived by his children: Derek Lewis and Michelle (Patrick) Lyons, his extended family, friends and caregivers. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tim Lewis, and his beloved wife Rueith Lewis.</p><p><br></p><p>The family will greet friends on Tuesday, July 8th from 10:00-11:00 AM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, where his service will be held at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Jim Dyke officiating. Interment will follow at Mt.
