<p><p>Janet May Hilbert, 85, of Delta Township passed peacefully on July 2, 2025, at University of Michigan Sparrow Eaton Hospital. Jan was born on May 31, 1940, in Norwalk Connecticut to Winifred McAuliffe Smith and Donald Hoyden Smith. Jan was the youngest of 4 children. The Smith’s resided in New Canaan, CT where their father was a General Contractor who built homes, churches and city buildings. Jan attended elementary school in New Canaan, CT and graduated in 1958 from So. Lancaster Academy, MA., where she met Victor C. Hilbert and they were married in 1959. Jan attended Atlantic Union College and worked as an accountant and bookkeeper while supporting her husband, Vic, as he pursued careers as an Educator and Fire Chief. Jan also worked as an Executive Assistant to the President of the Minnesota and Michigan School Board Associations. Jan and Vic were married 65 years and built a wonderful life together with three children. They lived in So Lancaster, MA; Long Island, NY; St. Joseph Michigan; Shenandoah Valley, VA; Spencerville MD; Minneapolis, MN; and Lansing MI. Jan also started and ran an international business, Eagle Sirens, selling three Sirens that Vic invented while Fire Chief of Delta Township. Jan was an incredible cook and was known for her vegetarian dishes and pies. She loved her dogs very much and they were always an important part of her family.</p><p><br></p><p>Jan is survived by her children: John Kevin Hilbert, Pamela Sue Hilbert (Larry Sock) and Jeffery Todd Hilbert. Grandchildren: Jack Sock, Eric Sock, and Jagger Freed. She was a loving Aunt to many Nieces and Nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>Jan is preceded in death by her parents Winifred McAuliffe Smith (1978), and Donald Royden Smith (1976); Husband, Victor C. Hilbert Jr. (2025) and her siblings; Joan P. Smith (2024), James R. Smith (2004), and John C. Smith (1996).</p><p><br></p><p>A celebration service for Janet May Hilbert will be held August 23, 2025, at 4PM, at the University United Methodist Church, 1120 S. Harrison Rd, East Lansing MI., 48823. Online condolences and memories may be shared at, www.millsfuneral.com.</p></p>
