<p>Billy Joe Oden, age 87 of Brunswick, passed away June 29, 2025, at home surrounded by his wife of 65 years, Linda (Kemp) Oden, and his children as he departed this earth.</p><p><br></p><p>Bill was born May 16, 1938, in Sumner, MO to Gerald and Anna (Little) Oden, the oldest of five children. After graduating from Hale High School in 1957, Bill moved to Kansas City and worked at Hallmark Cards. Bill married the love of his life, Linda Merle Kemp, on June 5,1960 at Hale United Methodist Church and five children were born to this union. Bill was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Bill’s family was the greatest accomplishment of his lifetime, and as long as his health allowed, he never missed a child’s or grandchild’s activities.</p><p><br></p><p>Bill retired from Hallmark in 1977 and began working for Ferrellgas, returning to Hale in 1980. Bill supported all of his children’s high school teams, he coached numerous youth recreation league teams and started the 5th and 6th grade basketball program in Hale. Bill and Linda moved to Brunswick in 1990, and Bill began working for MFA Propane in 1994. You could say Bill liked propane and propane accessories. While in Brunswick, Bill continued to coach 5th and 6th girls’ basketball over the next 15 years. Bill retired from MFA in 2003 and with Linda by his side, drove (as everything is within driving distance) around the country (Colorado, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas) seeing his children and grandchildren. Bill’s other hobbies over the years included archery, camping, basketball officiating, and involvement in youth sports.</p><p><br></p><p>Bill is survived by his wife, Linda; his five children Jonne Wilson, Barry (Diane) Oden, Scott Oden, Timothy Oden, and Kerri Davis; his grandchildren Tiffany (Luke), Chelsey (Justin), Cassie (Matt), Anthony (Chrissy), Courtney (Matt), Dalton (Regan), Rhys (Naomi), Trey, Taylor, Gwyn, Mia, and Kai; and his 12 great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers Gerald and Charlie, his two sisters Patty and Ethel, and by his grandchild Amanda.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral Services will be held Monday July 7 at 12:00 pm at Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury, MO with burial to follow in Hale Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Summerville Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to Brunswick Athletic Department or Hale Cemetery.</p><p><br></p>
