<p><p>Denis D.K. Ching, 88, of Round Rock, TX, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025.</p><p><br></p><p>Denis was born March 14, 1937 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was the first son of Francis Ching and Beatrice Ching. He graduated from Saint Louis High School in 1955. Then, he went on to the University of Hawaii, earning a degree in English.</p><p><br></p><p>Denis joined the U.S. Army in 1955 and served until honorably discharged in 1980 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He is a veteran of Vietnam, earning a Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. He also earned a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, as well as, a Meritorious Service Medal and an Armed Forces Reserve Medal.</p><p><br></p><p>Denis married Karen Kaneshiro on December 29, 1962 at Our Lady of Peace Cathedral in Honolulu, Hawaii. With Karen, he raised 4 boys while serving at various military posts around the world.</p><p><br></p><p>After retiring from the Army, Denis worked at Lago Vista Country Clubs and the State of Texas before retiring.</p><p><br></p><p>Denis especially loved golf, Tai Chi, and playing cards at home or at the casino. He made many friends playing cards and games, teaching bridge to beginners in his final years at the Enclave retirement home in Round Rock. He cherished time with his family and watching his great-grandchildren play. The great grandchildren loved to line up for red envelopes (lai see/lucky money). Denis was known by his family and friends for having a quick wit, one liners for us kids. Later in life he enjoyed cooking with the family and sharing his favorite Asian recipes. He was an avid Notre Dame fan, Sorry Dad but “Hook’Em Horns”. Denis was a St Louis Cardinal fan that became a Dodger fan after his grandson, Zac, was drafted by the Dodgers in 2019. He enjoyed watching sports and discussing current events.</p><p><br></p><p>Remaining to cherish Denis’s memory are Karen Ching, his children: Brian Ching and wife, Loree; Daryl Ching and wife Emma; Eric Ching; and Mark Ching and wife Victoria. Denis also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. His brother, Francis, and wife, Debra; sister Lynnette and husband, Tom and sister-in-law, Viola. He has many loving nephews and nieces as well as their families.</p><p><br></p><p>Preceding Denis in death are his parents, Francis and Beatrice Ching and his brother, Terrence Ching.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial services will be held July 15th at 11:30 am at Beck Funeral Home, with clergy officiating. Interment will be in Hawaii with Military Honors this September.
