Betty Jo Blair Henry, 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Cedar Park, Texas, on June 17, 2025, surrounded by love and memories from a life well-lived.

While her legal name was Betty Jo Blair Henry, most everyone who knew her called her “Granny.” Granny, as she was known by many, was a fixture in Cedar Park for decades.

Betty Jo Blair was born on September 18, 1929, in Round Rock, Texas, to Joe and Mary Blair. Betty was the youngest of four children and beloved by both her parents and siblings. Betty attended Leander High School graduating as the Salutatorian, excelling in both academics and athletics.

In her youth, Betty met the love of her life, Artie Lee Henry. Artie and Betty married on June 26, 1946, with an enduring marriage that lasted for 52 years. As newlyweds, Artie and Betty settled on Brushy Creek Road in Cedar Park, creating a loving home that would last for decades. They had two children, Nancy Lee Johnson and John E. “Buz” Henry, who were the light of their lives.

Artie and Betty were integral in the formation of Cedar Park. Betty was a founding member of the Cedar Park Volunteer Fire Department. Each year, she organized fundraisers which contributed to the growth of the Cedar Park Fire Department and the Cedar Park community. Fundraisers included the Brushy Creek Road cleanup and the Breakaway Fourth of July parade.

While Artie ranched, Betty worked for many years at the Texas Highway Department, retiring in 1988 with over 27 years of service. During her tenure at the Highway Department, she formed lifelong friendships that she cherished for many years.

After retirement, Betty continued her adventures by driving many miles across Texas looking at wildflowers with her husband. When Artie fell ill, Betty was a tireless and devoted caregiver of her husband. After Artie passed away in October of 1999, Betty continued her adventures by travelling and bowling with her friends. Most Wednesdays, you would find Betty and her friends, many in their eighties, bowling at the local bowling alley.

Betty was full of many talents and passions, including gardening, painting, but most of all cooking. Always with an eye for detail, she took pride in her yard and flowers. She was known for her pecan pies, venison, Texas sheet cake, cookies, and homemade biscuits. All her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren were privileged enough to spend time with her baking cookies in the home she resided in for over fifty years. Betty was a wonderful and welcoming host for parties, particularly Christmas, where family and friends gathered to celebrate, eat homemade food, sing, and dance. An occasional trip to the casino would only be interrupted by the sight of a garage sale sign.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Artie Lee Henry, sisters Mary Bible (A.C.), Margie Rosenbusch (Edwin), brother Sam Blair (Beth), half-sister, Laverne Boyles, and son-in-law, Chase Baromeo and is lovingly remembered by extended family whose lives she touched deeply.

Betty is survived by her children, Nancy Lee Johnson, John E. “Buz” Henry (Linda), grandsons, Joe Johnson (Heather), John Paul Henry (Tracee), granddaughter, Kelly Sundberg (Sean), great-grandchildren, Dylan Johnson (Megan), Blake Johnson, Garrett Johnson, Luke Henry, Jacob Henry, Layne Henry, Will Sundberg, Reed Sundberg, Ryan Sundberg, and Sadie Sundberg, and great-great-grandchildren, Josey Johnson and Colt Johnson.

Dear friends include Sharon Wolfe, Tracy Yates, Bonnie Schafer, and JoAnn Bearden. The family would like to extend a special thank you to our wonderful caregivers Carrie Gonzales and Angela Mora, for their unwavering dedication and kindness for the care of our beloved Granny.

Pallbearers are great-grandsons, Dylan Johnson, Blake Johnson, Garrett Johnson, Luke Henry, Jacob Henry, Will Sundberg, Reed Sundberg, and Ryan Sundberg.

Visitation will be at Beck Funeral home located at 1700 E.
