<p>(Rev.) Michael Lee Smith, 71, of Harrisburg, IL, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, IL.</p><p><br></p><p>Born on July 5, 1953 in Harrisburg to Donald and Norma Ruth (Ozee) Smith, Michael lived a life marked by service, love, and faith. He worked as a mechanic, a truck driver and proudly served as Pastor of Gaskin City Missionary Baptist Church where he found great joy in ministering to and serving his church family that he loved.</p><p><br></p><p>Michael was a devoted husband, father, brother, and especially loved being a “PaPaw.” He enjoyed building race cars in the "Geezer Garage" with his best friend Bruce, drag racing, mowing lawns for family and friends. He was a member of Shawnee Classic Iron and Memory Lane Auto Fest, sharing his passion for classic cars with many.</p><p><br></p><p>Michael is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Connie Smith; his children, Amberlea Smith and Wendy (Mark) Aly; grandchildren, Alexis Velazquez, Quinton Binkley, Danee Rae Brantley, and Ryan Greenwood. He is also survived by his sister, Diana (Brad) Crick; brothers, Don (Ronica) Smith and Mark (Mary) Smith; sister-in-law, Carla (Michael) Palazzolo; brother-in-law, Dan (Lori) Scantlan; mother-in-law, Elva (Bob) Patton; eight nieces, four nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Bruce Allen.</p><p><br></p><p>He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Terry Ruth Casteel; and father-in-law, Walter Scantlan.</p><p><br></p><p>A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Gaskin City Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg, IL, with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery near Eldorado, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, also at the church.</p><p><br></p><p>Pallbearers will be Ryan Crick, Ryan Ozee, Jake Smith, Mic Palazzolo, Ryan Greenwood, Rick Poore, and Tim Wall.</p><p><br></p><p>Arrangements are entrusted to Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL.
