<p>James Gregory Mathias, age 70, of Sunbury, Ohio, passed away on June 3rd, 2025, following a courageous six-year battle with cancer.</p><p><br></p><p>He was born on July 22nd, 1954, in Bedford, Ohio, to parents Trevor and Wilda (née Frick) Mathias. On February 16th, 1991, Jim married the love of his life, Nancy, in Parma, Ohio. Together they shared 34 wonderful years of marriage.</p><p><br></p><p>Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy, and their beloved children: Erin (Brian) Murphy, Lesley (Kevin) Nelson, Eric (Kelly) Prock, Kimberly (Jacob) Lovell, Kathleen Mathias, and James Mathias. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Kynslie (Josh) Porter, Adin and Landon Murphy, Mikayla and Aubrey Nelson, Logan and Jase Prock, and Sloane and Bodhi Lovell. He was a cherished great-grandfather. Additionally Jim is also survived by his brother, David (Lynne) Mathias.</p><p><br></p><p>He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilda and Trevor Mathias.</p><p><br></p><p>Jim had a long and respected career in the banking industry. Outside of work, he had a deep passion for home renovation and landscaping. He also found great joy in the companionship of the family’s dogs and horses over the years.</p><p><br></p><p>Jim especially cherished family vacations to Hilton Head Island, where he could often be found quietly reading a book and soaking in the peaceful moments. A proud 1976 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Jim often said his greatest achievements were his children and the deep, unwavering love he held for his wife, whom he affectionately called “My Love.”</p><p><br></p><p>The Mathias family extends heartfelt thanks to all the family, friends, and well-wishers who offered support throughout Jim’s journey.</p><p>Family and friends may call at Snyder Funeral Homes, DeVore Chapel (637 N. State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074) on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 3:30 p.m.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to support Jim’s celebration of life.
