Megan Jennifer Whiteside

Megan Jennifer Whiteside, 50, passed away on May 26, 2025, in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Born on April 4, 1975, in Baltimore, Maryland, Megan was a loving mother, daughter and sister. She was smart, incredibly fun and funny and never met a stranger.

Megan grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut where she enjoyed playing soccer, softball and lacrosse, singing in the choir, acting in school productions and participating in the church youth group. After graduating from William H. Hall High School, Megan attended Providence College where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology. During her time at Providence College, Megan was an active member of the Board of Programmers and served on Student Congress. Megan met some of her dearest friends during this time and was always proud to tell people how long they had been friends. After college, Megan moved to the Boston area where she found her professional niche as an intellectual property administrator. For over fifteen years, Megan worked for several law firms including Fish & Richardson, Wolf Greenfield, Clark & Elbing, K&L Gates and Nelson Mullins. Her work ethic and camaraderie earned her deep friendships that formed in the office but lasted well beyond her time in the industry.

Throughout her life Megan always enjoyed a good meal (as long as it was not too saucy!), a good TV show (the more depressing the better), spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee with family, a good turtleneck, reading, shopping with her friends, mom, sister or daughter, cheering on Boston sports teams and a Diet Coke at any time of day.

She is survived by her daughter, Mia Vernon of Mendon, MA; her mother, Kathleen Whiteside of Richmond, VA; her sister, Elizabeth Whiteside (Nicolai Shuman), also of Richmond, VA; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Whiteside, and her grandparents, William and Estelle Brocks and Edward and Doris Whiteside and her cousin, William Brocks III. She is also survived by Joshua Vernon, her former husband and supportive father of Mia.

In 2015, Megan followed her love of sunshine and the beach to the U.S. Virgin Islands. During her time in the islands, she established a rhythm of life that mirrored the ocean - rough seas would come and go, followed by periods where she felt the warmth of the sun and saw the beauty in the nature surrounding her. She was a friend to many in the U.S. Virgin Islands and made everyone feel seen and valued - qualities that she inherited from her loving and dedicated parents. While Megan was physically separated from many family and friends during this time, she always held her loved ones very closely in her heart, especially her daughter Mia. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all who kept her safe during this time and helped Megan feel a sense of purpose and belonging, including her companion Guy “Guido” Hursh.

Those who knew Megan will remember her most for her sense of humor and her extraordinary talent for storytelling. She had an uncanny ability to turn everyday experiences into unforgettable and hilarious anecdotes. Whether recalling childhood adventures, office escapades, or island mishaps, Megan had a way of drawing people in and making them feel like they too were part of the story.

Her legacy lives on in the many smiles and laughs she sparked and through the memories held in the hearts of those who loved her.

Megan's life will be celebrated at a Mass on Saturday, June 7 at 10:00AM at St. Patrick's Church, 212 Main St, Watertown, MA 02472.
