<p>Memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Martin &amp; Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette for Betty Jeanne "B.J." Brown Massey, age 76. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at Martin &amp; Castille's SOUTHSIDE location.</p><p><br></p><p>Reverend Easton Vinson of First Baptist Church of Lafayette will officiate at the services. </p><p><br></p><p>Betty is survived by her daughter, Marvelle Cherie Curry and husband Dan; and two grandchildren, Ashley South Fann and Lindsey South; two great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Mary "Bebe" Brown Smith, Douglas Brown, James Brown, Bobbye Lyn Brown Bordelon and husband Don, and Debbie Brown Prisock and husband Rick.</p><p><br></p><p>She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, George Calvin Massey; her parents, William and Jeanne G. Brown; and her brothers, Thomas Rivet and William "Bill" Brown, Jr.</p><p><br></p><p>Betty Jeanne Brown Massey, affectionately known as B.J. to her friends and family, passed away peacefully with her loving daughter by her side on May 2, 2025, in Lafayette. Born on November 21, 1948, in Morgan City, B.J. was a beacon of love and generosity throughout her 76 years of life.</p><p><br></p><p>A proud graduate of Berwick High School, B.J.'s early life in Morgan City was filled with the joy of learning and the development of the creative talents that would become her hallmark. It was after her marriage to her beloved husband, George, that she moved to Lafayette in the early 70s, where they established a warm and welcoming home together.</p><p><br></p><p>B.J. embraced her role as a loving homemaker with grace and enthusiasm. Her home was always filled with the aroma of freshly baked goods and the sight of her latest crochet project or beautiful painting. Her creative spirit was a source of inspiration and comfort to all who knew her.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to her artistic pursuits, B.J. cherished her beloved Yorkie, Mazi Grace, who was a constant companion and source of joy in her life. Her love for her pet was a reflection of her overall loving nature, which extended to every aspect of her life.</p><p><br></p><p>A woman of strong faith, B.J. was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Lafayette and Adult Women's Sunday School Classes. She loved studying God's Word and attended Bible Study Fellowship and Precept's Bible Study. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her actions and her unwavering support of her church community.</p><p><br></p><p>Those who knew B.J. will remember her as a loving and generous soul, always ready to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement. Her creativity was not just in the arts but in her ability to make everyone around her feel special and loved.</p><p><br></p><p>Betty Jeanne Brown Massey's legacy is one of love, generosity, and creativity. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her gentle spirit. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she left behind, and the beauty she created will serve as a lasting tribute to a life well-lived.</p><p><br></p><p>Special thanks to B.J.'s niece, Lisa Aucoin Johnson, for her many years of love and care giving.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty Jeanne "B.J."
