Kenya Houghton Anders

Dr. Kenya Houghton Anders, age 66, of Peachtree City, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. She leaves behind her devoted husband of forty-one years, David, and their five beloved children: Rebekah (Sean), Lloyd (Jackie), Luke (Savannah), Rachel, and Lincoln. She was a proud grandmother to Levi Noble Anders. Kenya is also survived by her siblings, James (Jody) and John (Gena) Houghton, and Jo (Brad) Reeves. Also her deeply cherished in-laws, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and cousins. Each one brought her joy and pride, and she loved them dearly. Kenya’s life was marked by academic excellence, quiet strength, and a profound dedication to healing. She graduated as valedictorian from Mascoutah High School in 1976, earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia in 1980, and her Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia in 1984. She went on to complete residencies and achieve board certification in both Internal Medicine and Dermatology. For over 34 years, she faithfully served as a dermatologist at Kaiser Permanente, where she was known not only for her clinical expertise but for her deep compassion and integrity. She was a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and was awarded lifetime membership for her enduring contributions to the field. Outside of medicine, Kenya was a woman of vibrant curiosity, discipline, and creativity. From an early age, she excelled in music, mastering piano and clarinet, and later, as an adult, took up the harp, which she played during worship at New Hope Baptist Church. She found joy in the quiet moments of life and in perfecting and generously sharing her sourdough bread, tending to her family traditions, and blessing others with acts of kindness. To honor her mother’s career in education, Kenya established an annual scholarship at McIntosh High School. For more than 30 years, she hosted a beloved family dinner that raised support for the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home. At Christmastime she encouraged her children, nieces, and nephews to hide God’s word in their hearts, awarding them a dollar for each Bible verse they could recite from memory. That passion for Scripture led her to publish a book to help other families do the same. In death, Kenya is reunited with her beloved parents, Colonel Stanley P. Houghton and Joan Noble Houghton, and with the two precious children lost in pregnancy—souls she longed to hold and now embraces, having known the joy and sorrow only a mother’s heart can understand. A Celebration of Kenya’s Life will be held at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Visitation with family will begin at 10:00 AM with the service to follow at 12 noon, a gathering that will serve as both a remembrance of her extraordinary spirit and a heartfelt thank you to the friends, family, co-workers, patients, and community who have ministered to her and to us with kindness, encouragement, and prayer. We are deeply indebted to you for your love. In recognition of Kenya’s favorite color, you are invited to join us wearing pink clothing or accessories. Kenya would be honored to know that acts of service or donations made in her memory were given to people or causes you find meaningful. But most of all, she would be honored to know you held close the ones you love, and remembered her with joy.
