<p>George James Gataky Jr.</p><p>August 27, 1934 -April 18, 2025</p><p><br></p><p>Dr. George James Gataky Jr. M.D., 90, passed away peacefully at home in Louisville, Kentucky, on April 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.</p><p><br></p><p>Born in Queens, New York, on August 27, 1934. He graduated from New York University in 1955 and earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa Medical College in 1962. He completed his first-year dermatology residency at the University of Louisville in 1966, followed by two years at Henry Ford Hospital. In 1969, Dr. Gataky was board certified by the American Academy of Dermatology.</p><p><br></p><p>George found Louisville to be a charming and welcoming city, and it became his lifelong home. He opened his medical practice here and built a life centered around service, community, and family. He found great joy in teaching in the dermatology program at the University of Louisville.</p><p><br></p><p>In 2001, George married his beloved wife, Rita, surrounded by family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. George is survived by his children, Katherine Robinson (Allen) and Matthew Gataky (Katherine); and his grandchildren, Eleanor, George Nathan, Graham, and James, who brought him immense joy.</p><p><br></p><p>George was an active member of AHEPA and a lifelong learner with a passion for travel and history. He especially enjoyed visiting the World War II Museum in New Orleans. He was greatly loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his warmth, dedication, and the deep happiness he found in time spent with family.</p><p><br></p><p>He is preceded in death by his parents, Rose and George J. Gataky, Sr; as well as his previous wife, Mary K. Gataky.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral mass will be10:00 AM Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Cherrywood Rd., with Entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, May 9, 2025 at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Ln.
