Robert "Bob" James Byers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on March 28, 2025, after a long illness, at the age of 81 in Lexington, KY. He was born in Morris, IL, on May 29, 1943, to the late Raymond and Marguerite Byers.

Bob's youthful days were marked by service to his country when he answered the call of duty and served in the Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967. Returning from his military service, Bob became a respected self-employed plumber and later an HVAC technician—a "fixer" and "builder" of all things-he could literally fix and build anything. He was known for his brilliant and creative mind, often providing for others in need, sometimes working without payment and extending his generosity through acts of kindness that surpassed his job's requirements. Bob lived by the principle that one should "die with boots on," working tirelessly up until his final days.

Bob had an enduring passion for growing plants, taking particular delight in nurturing seeds into flourishing greenery. His creativity and caring nature shined through when he surrounded his beloved wife, Marion, with an indoor garden to enjoy when she became less able to walk, filling their home with life and color.

Bob also found joy in sewing, a skill he used to craft thoughtful gifts for his family. His hand-sewn projects, ranging from unique "neck purses" fashioned from old blue jeans to soft blankets emblazoned with patterns of their favorite things, were cherished by all who received them. Among his creations, the "Kentucky Hillbilly Back Scratchers" stood out as a testament to his ingenuity, often hailed as the best back scratchers ever made.

Those who knew Bob would describe him as loving, generous, and smart. He was a man whose heart's capacity to love and give knew no bounds. As Albert Einstein once aptly said, "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile." Bob embodied this sentiment in every facet of his life, enriching the lives of all who crossed his path.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of over 50 years, Marion Byers; his son, Michael Byers (Oxford, OH); his daughter, Stephanie Byers Brock (Lexington, KY); his loving grandchildren, Spencer and Raegan Brock (Lexington, KY) and Jennifer and Jaylyn Byers (Oxford, OH); his sister, Kathy Carter (Lexington, KY); and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Marguerite Byers; his sister, Marguerite "Margie" Bowling; and his brother, Arthur "Sonny" Byers.

Bob lived a life full of purpose, love, and selflessness. His absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit of generosity and the beauty of his life continue to inspire us. Bob’s story is not just about the end of a life, but about the depth and breadth of love shared, lessons taught, as well as learned, and a legacy that will continue to resonate with those who were fortunate enough to know and love him. We take solace in the belief that we will eventually join him in Heaven, our eternal home, with our Heavenly Father.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Visitation for Mr. Byers will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Wednesday, April 9th at Milward - Man O 'War located at 1509 Trent Blvd. Service will begin at 12:30 pm, Thursday, April 10th at the funeral home.
