<p>Daniel “Danny” Austin Mullen II passed away peacefully of Lewy body dementia on March 27, 2025 at his home in Kenner, LA with his wife of 50 years, Kathy Baird Mullen, by his side the entire time. Born on October 8, 1951 to Daniel A. Mullen and Alice Clairain Mullen and brother to the late Kathleen Mullen. Devoted father of Daniel A. Mullen III (Lindsay) and Dirk K. Mullen, and grandfather to Beckett Mullen and Brooks Mullen.</p><p><br></p><p>Born and raised in New Orleans, Danny graduated from De La Salle high school and the University of New Orleans. Along the way he met his lifelong friend Bill Barr. The two of them shared many phone calls every weekend of football season complaining about LSU and the Saints.</p><p><br></p><p>Danny had a passion for wine and food. He spent most of his career working at Glazer’s Inc. selling wine to some of the best restaurants and chefs that New Orleans has to offer. Later in his career, he became a Master Sommelier and taught classes at the local college. It was through his love of wine and cooking that Danny met two of his closest friends, Jerry Henry and EJ Vitrano. The three of them would go on to spend countless dinner parties together drinking and laughing, and drinking and singing, and drinking a little more together.</p><p><br></p><p>Danny’s true love was his family. He would do, and often did, anything for his sons. He never missed a soccer practice or game. Danny was always there with words of encouragement or advice. He taught them about life and the way the world works. Most of all, though, Danny loved his wife, his Kathy Lou. He was a man of few words, but his actions proved his undying love.</p><p><br></p><p>He will be missed tremendously by all who know him.</p><p><br></p><p>A heartfelt thank you to Gertrude, his sitter, and his hospice nurse, Jennifer.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers and donations, please open your best bottle of wine and have a drink to Danny.</p><p><br></p><p>Tharp Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.</p><p><br></p>October 8, 1951 - March 27, 202510/08/195103/27/2025
