It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Frances A. Evangelista (Née Tarantino) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

Frances was born to Anna and Frank Tarantino on July 18, 1930, in Milwaukee, WI.

She loved telling stories about growing up on the East Side of Milwaukee with her 3 brothers, Anthony, John, Dominic “Micky” and her sister Angie, and the three generations of family living together under one roof. She often said there wasn’t much money but there was always lots of love. She was proud of her Sicilian heritage and loved to speak Sicilian during visits with her brother John before he passed.

She met the love of her life, Teofilo “Phil” Evangelista, while working as a candy striper at Deaconess Hospital in Milwaukee. After marrying, they moved to North Dakota, and then to Minnesota while Phil completed his residencies. They finally settled in Appleton, WI, where they raised their children. In their later years, they moved to Delafield. Fran and Phil were blessed with 62 years together.

Fran’s life revolved around FAMILY and FOOD. We will remember countless family gatherings and celebrations over the years. She was very loving and had huge heart. Affectionately known as Mom, Nana, and Auntie, she greeted everyone with a beaming smile, a hug and a kiss.

You never went hungry in Fran’s home! She was a fantastic cook and loved to cook for an army! Family and friends will attest to enjoying many Sicilian and Filipino specialties over the years. She loved it when someone requested their favorite dish. Her Christmas cookies were legendary! She made enough of them to fill four or five large plastic storage bins every year.

Fran loved music, and she loved to sing and dance. Very late in life, she acquired some guitars and loved to strum them for her family. When she was younger, she enjoyed making her own dresses and skirts.

She was an authentic, kind, and humble person, and she will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was predeceased by her husband Teofilo Evangelista and her siblings John (the late Angie) Tarantino, Anthony (the late Marilee) Tarantino, Dominic Tarantino and Angie (Joseph) Schlosser.

She will be missed dearly by her children, Eugene Zappaterreno and his partner Debbie of Trenton, ND; Mario Evangelista and his wife Joanne Coyle of Marstons Mills, MA, and her daughter Richelle Peddie and her partner Brian of Delafield, WI; as well as Brother-in-Law Joseph Schlosser of Shiocton, WI; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren,1 great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Melissa Tessmer for her dedication, friendship and the wonderful care she offered Fran.

Visting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 18, from 11am – Noon, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, N88 W17658 Christman Rd., Menomonee Falls.
