Carole was born in Williston, ND on November 26, 1943 to Olaf and Olive (Gilbertson) Vinger. She attended school and graduated high school from Wheelock, ND in 1961. Carole had a beautiful singing voice and shared her talent at many barn dances and Vinger family reunions. She and her sisters, Marlene and Gayle never failed to bring the fun with their rendition of the “Laughing Polka”.

She married Ronald Haug on August 19, 1961 in Wheelock, ND. Ron and Carole welcomed their first child, Wanda Jo, in 1962, Lisa Ann in 1966, and Christian Melvin completed their family in 1971. We would rate being a Mom as one of her very best talents!

Ron and Carole lived in Wahpeton while Ron attended Wahpeton State School of Science, and also lived and worked in Glendive, MT before moving to Williston. Carole enjoyed working at American State Bank in Williston before moving to Epping where they worked and managed their family farm together for over 50 years. Carole was a professional in the kitchen and many can attest to the amazing meals that she would serve both at home and in the field during harvest.

During her time in Epping, Carole also worked for very good friends at the Buffalo Inn Cafe and Sitting Bull Auction. Carole loved her time at the cafe visiting with friends and playing many games of pinochle when the work was done. Grandkids remember her stash of pinochle playing money in a yellow margarine tub! Carole and Wanda had the opportunity to act alongside family and friends in two Epping Melodrama’s, “Deadwood Dick” and “How the West Was Fun”. She had wonderful memories and many laughs shared during this fun time.

In 2012 Carole and Ron made the decision to move to West Fargo to enjoy their retirement. They also spent many years traveling in their motorhome before settling in first Mesquite, NV then eventually Mesa, AZ for the winter months. They agreed that the motorhome years were some of the best of their lives as they were able to meet and spend time with so many wonderful members of the family and friends. Summer months were spent on Lake Melissa where they loved watching sunsets. Carole was often found making large pans of cinnamon rolls for everyone and they were gone in seconds when they came out of the oven.

Spending time with family doing just about anything was always at the top of Mom’s list. She loved her family and was so very proud of each and every one of us. Country music, dancing, spending time at the lake, and grandkids sports and activities were some of her favorite pastimes, but very high on that list was very LONG meals either at home or out. In our family, dining is an event that we take very seriously and spending that time together is where many of our most cherished memories lie. Each time one of our significant others joined the family it took a little adjusting to learn what this was all about, but they all agree now that they’ve learned to love it as much as Mom always did.

Carole is survived by her loving children Wanda (Jay) Bingeman, Lisa (Norm) Hanson, Chris (Nikki) Haug; grandchildren, Lacy (Cameron) Wahlstrom, Cass (Jake Wargin) Hanson, Sawyer (Brittany) Hanson, Jaxson Haug and Kenley Haug; Great grandchildren, Reese Wahlstrom, Porter Wahlstrom, Banks Hanson and soon to be born Baby Hanson, Sister, Gayle (Lonnie) Malwitz, Brother, Russ (Collie) Vinger, Sister in Law, Doris (Myron) Vinger and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carole was preceded in death by husband, Ron, her parents, Father and Mother In Law, Melvin and Melba Haug, Brothers Oscar Vinger, Gene (Alice) Hermanson, Richard (Doris) Vinger, Orren (Elaine) Vinger, Clifford (Sylvia) Vinger, Larry (Sandi) Vinger, Myron Vinger, Dennis Vinger, and Sisters, Inga (Clifford) Stewart, Olga (Jerry) Jordan, Mable (Hugh) Lindsay, Lyla (Gil) McKee, Eunice (Bill) Broomfield, Delores (Alvin) Steen, Ada (Bob) Greenhalgh, and Marlene (Bob) Dietz.

May you rest in paradise Mom until we see you again.

In lieu of flowers Mom requested that donations be directed to Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes - Minnesota & Dakotas Chapter in honor of Great-Grandson Porter.
