Marcella A. Kollar, 90, of Nanticoke, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025 at Lakewood

Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Sheatown, after struggling with illness for the past 8 months.

Marcella was born in Hanover Green on August 12, 1934, the daughter of the late Stanley and

Blanche Suslarick Pratz. She was a graduate of Hanover Memorial High School, class of 1952. She

married our father Leonard Kollar in 1954, who preceded her in death on Valentine’s Day, 2014 after a

marriage that spanned almost 60 years. The couple made their home in Nanticoke, where they raised

their family of 4 children.

Marcella was employed in secretarial and bookkeeping positions with different companies

through the years, including Bergman’s, Craft Associates, Wilkes-Barre and St. Stanislaus Parish,

Nanticoke. She also was employed at RCA Corporation, Mountain Top for a number of years, where she

was active in the union and served as shop steward.

Marcella worked to help provide for her family, but her main interest in life was being a loving

wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nothing gave her more joy than a family gathering

filled with good Polish food, lots of laughter, and hugs from the children. She also kept a tidy and

company ready home, and friends and family still talk about her mantra of “leave your shoes at the door!”

Memories of mom are many, but those that stand out include a strong work ethic in all she strived

for, an amazing ability to present herself and her family as fashionably dressed, determination to provide

her children with an education, the willingness to provide a helping hand with whatever we needed, and of

course, her LOVE of dancing. She and our father attended many dances at locations throughout the

Wyoming Valley, and there wasn’t anywhere she wouldn’t go to listen to polka music that included a

dance floor! They also looked forward to the polka weekends in NY state!

In addition to her parents and husband, Leonard, Marcella was preceded in death by her brother,

Bernard Pratz.

She is survived by her children: Gayle Ann Swain, Huntington Beach, CA; Kathy Link and her

husband, Lt. Col. Wilfried Link, USAF Ret., Vacaville, CA; Lt. Col. Kris Kollar, Air National Guard, Ret.,

and his wife, Lauri, Lebanon; and Leanne Kelly and her companion, Bob Chester, Pennsauken, NJ;

grandchildren, Erin Quigley (Patrick), Kristen Garubba, Jay Kollar (Rachelle), Rachael Lowery,

(Brenden), Jordan Kollar (Kathleen), Alyssa Soler (Dan), Taylor Kelly, SSgt. Payton Kelly Air

National Guard, Austin Fuller, and Owen. Great-grandchildren include Ryanne, Sydney, Alexandria,

Christopher, Cameron, Ryden, Jalen, Rose, Able and Emma.

Mrs. Kollar’s family extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Lakewood for their compassionate

care, and also to the staff of Residential Hospice for the comfort and care they provided.

Services will begin Friday at 9:30 a.m. from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E.
