<p>Betty Jo Hammel McCormick, 90 years young, wife of Frank B. McCormick for 63 years, went to be with our Lord on February 28, 2025.</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her husband, Frank B. McCormick, daughter, Susan M. Murrell of Lexington, granddaughter Ainsley Katherine Jennings (Ryan) and great-granddaughters Trinity Blair Jennings and Enyd Verity Jennings of Paint Lick, Ky, and son Frank B. McCormick, Jr. (Laura) and grandsons Christian Brandt McCormick and Nathan Andrew McCormick of Pearland, Texas.</p><p><br></p><p>Betty was born on April 18, 1934, one of seven children of Julia Katherine Coda Hammel and Leonard John Hammel born in Blue Diamond, Perry County, Kentucky. She attended Perry County schools and was a graduate of Asbury College.</p><p><br></p><p>Betty taught second grade at Meadowthorpe Elementary in Lexington before retiring to teach piano in her home for over 40 years. Betty loved her many piano students and was thrilled to see their progress from year to year. She loved the art of piano and attended master classes and other learning events at every opportunity.</p><p><br></p><p>Betty was a long-time member the Lexington Federated Music Club (LFMC), serving as its president from 1976-1977, the Bluegrass Area Music Teachers Association (BAMTA), and the National Guild of Piano Teachers. She judged KMTA Keyboard Festivals as well as Guild piano auditions in Kentucky and neighboring states. For many years, she was one of the organizers of the Nathaniel Patch Piano Competition (501)(c)(3) since its inaugural event.</p><p><br></p><p>Betty loved the magnificence and beauty of nature. She was an avid bird watcher, and loved every opportunity to enjoy its many aspects, including visiting the UK Arboretum, and family property in Virginia.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation for Betty will be from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm at Milward - Southland located at 391 Southland Drive, Wednesday, March 12th. A service to celebrate her life will begin at 11:00 am the following day, Thursday, March 13th at the funeral home with Deacon Tim Weinmann of Cathedral of Christ the King conducting the service.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Nathaniel Patch Piano Competition, 348 Melbourne Way, Lexington, KY 40502 or the UK Arboretum, 500 Alumni Drive, Lexington, KY 40503.</p><p><br></p><p>To share a remembrance of Betty or to offer condolences to her family, please visit milwardfuneral.com to sign the tribute portion of her obituary page.</p><p><br></p>
