Harold (“Hal”) Ternent Osgood, age 83, of Southfield, died peacefully at home March 5, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Terry, daughter Kathy Wanhainen (Gary, Sr.) of Kerrville, Texas, son Tyler Osgood (Esther) of Livonia, Michigan, adopted son Joseph Skarzenski of Hope Mills, North Carolina, stepson Justin Milne of Warren, Michigan, and stepson Jason (Shannon) Milne of Royal Oak, Michigan. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jamie Wanhainen (Arturo Ramirez), Gary Wanhainen, Jr., Jeannie Wanhainen, Lauren (D.J.) Niziol, Kiersten Pushee, Madison Smolinski, and Isaac Osgood, and by eight great grandchildren: Angel Ramirez, Arturius Ramirez, Arielle Ramirez, Aceson Ramirez, Faith Garces, Corey Garces, Liliana Niziol, and Gwendolyn Niziol. Hal is also survived by former wives Cynthia Osgood and Colleen Fitzgerald.

Hal was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Ternent Osgood (1963), father Harold Duengel Osgood (1990), stepmother Ann Rice Osgood (2002), daughter Sharon Osgood March (2008), sister Garnett Osgood Meyers (2021) brother-in-law Ronald Lee Meyers (2021), niece Kelly Eberz (2018), and his first wife, Donna Fournier (2005).

Hal was born on March 8, 1941 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He was raised in Royal Oak and later Detroit, where his father was a Ford executive. Hal graduated from St. John’s Military Academy (Delafield, WI) in 1959. He married Donna McAuley and they welcomed daughter Kathy. He then attended Michigan Technological University for three and a half years, during which time they welcomed daughter Sharon.

Hal worked at several different careers and enjoyed all of them. As a teen, he washed ceilings in the executive offices at Ford Motor Company, and shoveled manure at Greenfield Village. Beginning in the construction industry as a ditch digger prior to college, he worked his way up to be master mechanic for the construction of the Monroe, Michigan powerhouse. He was a highly-sought after crane operator and a member of IUOE 324. He left the construction industry in 1972 to open a Honda motorcycle dealership in Morganton, North Carolina. After selling the dealership, he began selling home improvements in North Carolina, and later in Louisiana, Georgia, and Michigan. Hal could talk comfortably with people at all socioeconomic levels—and he did.

Hal and Donna divorced in 1976. He then married and divorced Colleen Raxter. In 1986, he married Cindy Skarzenski, adopted her son Joseph Skarzenski; and they welcomed son Tyler in 1987. Hal and Cindy divorced in 1998, and in 1999 Hal returned to Michigan with Tyler. Hal married Terry Wuester Milne in 2002 and became a stepfather to her sons Justin and Jason.

Although Hal had a religious upbringing, he largely ignored religion much of his adult life. It was the failure of his third marriage that caused him to reexamine matters of faith and to ultimately embrace evangelical Christianity. He was a member of Emmanuel Bethel Church in Royal Oak from 1999 until 2014, and then of Highland Park Baptist Church in Southfield from 2014 until his death. For many years after retiring, he served as a volunteer peer counselor to men at the Berkley and Detroit CareNet Pregnancy Information Centers.

In January 2017, Hal was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an incurable blood plasma cancer. He was initially treated by Dr. Susanna Gaikazian and later by Dr. Ishmael Jaiyesimi and their wonderful staff, at the Rose Cancer Clinic at Corewell Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.

Family will receive friends Thursday, March 13, 2025 5-8 PM and Friday, March 14, 2025, 5-8 PM at A.J.
