<p>Barbara (nee Geiling) Mitchell, of Middletown, New Jersey, peacefully passed away on Friday evening, January 31, 2025. &nbsp;&nbsp;Born and raised in Rahway, New Jersey, she was a graduate of the Rahway Schools and The Washington School for Secretaries in Newark. &nbsp;She had been employed by Merck &amp; Co.,, then located in Rahway, prior to moving to Middletown. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Music was an important part of her life. &nbsp;&nbsp;She studied voice with Madeline King Bartell of Westfield and was an active church soloist prior to and following her marriage to James Mitchell, also of Rahway.</p><p><br></p><p>Shortly after moving to Middletown, she and her husband became charter members of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Middletown. &nbsp;&nbsp;She was an active member of the choir, served as substitute organist on occasion, and organized the first Junior Choir. &nbsp;Barbara also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for Pack 142 for three years.</p><p><br></p><p>Barbara was an active member of the Woman’s Club of Middletown, serving in many capacities including many terms as President, and was currently serving as President at the time of her death. &nbsp;&nbsp;As a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs of GFWC, she served as Shore District Chairman in a number of positions as well as several positions as Vice Chairman. &nbsp;This included the reorganization of the Pan American Scholarship to the present day NJSFWC International Exchange Scholarship.</p><p><br></p><p>Barbara served on the NJSFWC Board of Directors as Communications Chairman, Program Assistance Chairman, Community Improvement Program Award Chairman, and the Cecilia Gaines Holland Award/Margaret Yardley Fellowship Fund Chairman. &nbsp;&nbsp;She held memberships in the NJSFWC State Ex Club, the Phoenix Club, the Lilies, and the Shore District Past Presidents’ Club. &nbsp;In addition to her club work, Barbara was a long-time volunteer at the Middletown Public Library.</p><p><br></p><p>Barbara was predeceased by her husband, James H. Mitchell, her son James S. Mitchell of Colts Neck, and her parents Walter and Dora Geiling of Rahway. &nbsp;&nbsp;Surviving are her daughter Janice M. Anania (Joseph) of Colts Neck, David M. Mitchell (Rebecca) of Glen Ridge, Donald H. Mitchell (Ann Marie) of Ivyland, PA., daughter-in-law Patricia Mitchell of Colts Neck, nine grandchildren, Mark Anania (Lauren) Andrew Anania (Catherine) James D. Mitchell, Graham Mitchell, Victoria Mitchell, Sophie Mitchell, Jeremy Mitchell, Sariel Mitchell, Olivia Mitchell, and five great-grandchildren, Hadley, Campbell, Piper, Harper and Henry Anania.</p><p><br></p><p>Services will be held at 10AM on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Middletown. &nbsp;Visitations will be from 4-8PM on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the John F. Pfleger funeral home, also in Middletown.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Bank Chapter of the Salvation Army, Bayshore Kitchen, Keyport (formerly Kitchen at St. Marks) or the Fairview First Aid Squad. </p><p><br></p><p><br> </p>
