<p><p>Virginia A. (Coen) Burns, 88, of Beverly, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2025 at her son’s home. She was the beloved wife of the late George Burns, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and adventure until his passing in 2006.</p><p><br></p><p>Born in Waltham on January 13, 1937, Virginia was the daughter of the late Michael and Edna Coen and was raised in Watertown with her five siblings.</p><p><br></p><p>In 1972, Virginia married the love of her life, George, and together they created a loving home in Arlington. Their years in Arlington were filled with many memories with family and friends, most notably their annual Christmas Eve gathering that was filled with endless food (including her famous deviled eggs and chicken divan) and joyous Christmas caroling.</p><p><br></p><p>After George’s passing, Virginia moved to Billerica, where she lived for many years. In her later years, as her health declined, she found comfort and care in Beverly, living with her son David and his wife Bridget, who selflessly cared for her until her passing.</p><p><br></p><p>Virginia spent her early years working at S&amp;H Green Stamps and then Houghton Mifflin Co. retiring to fully embrace the joys of family and travel. She loved taking cruises with friends and family and was always ready for a new adventure, including an unforgettable bucket-list trip to Ireland and the Grand Canyon. Above all else, Virginia treasured time with her family. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Two weeks before her death her birthday was celebrated with the love of her family surrounding her as she enjoyed her favorite dish of lobster risotto!</p><p><br></p><p>Virginia is survived by her four children: Richard (Audrey) Alberts of Franklin, David (Bridget) Alberts of Beverly, Ronald (Linda) Alberts of Merrimack, NH, and Lori Alberts of Arlington. She also leaves behind her 12 grandchildren: Kristen, Timothy, David, Summer, Katelyn, Seth,</p><p>Steven, Evan, Kari, Michael, Ryan, and Robert. In addition, she was blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Kinsley, Griffin, Phoenix, Orryn, Ivy, Jade and Lucas, as well as one great-great-grandchild: Lysander. Virginia also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, with</p><p>whom she loved spending time.</p><p><br></p><p>She was the loving sister of Michael (Kathy) Coen and Jeanne Towers and was predeceased by her sisters Mary Lou O’Halloran, Patricia Sivon, and Ruth Jakola. Virginia shared a lifelong friendship with the late Marie Leavey, who was like family to her.</p><p><br></p><p>Virginia’s life was a beautiful testament to love—love for her family, for her cherished years in Arlington with George, and for the many friendships she made along the way.</p><p><br></p><p>Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 9am – 11am, followed immediately by a funeral service at the funeral home at DeVito Funeral Home, 1145 Mass Ave., Arlington, MA. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington.</p></p>
