<p>George Surprenant, 82, of Norwich, CT, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025 after a brave battle with lung cancer. Born in Troy, New York, to Joseph Leonard Surprenant and Marie Aurise Surprenant, George lived a full and meaningful life dedicated to his family, community, and country. </p><p>A graduate of Norwich Free Academy, George proudly served in the United States Air Force, embodying a lifelong commitment to service. He was a devoted member of his parish, serving as both a Eucharistic minister and lector, sharing his faith with his community. His dedication extended to his career in pharmaceutical and medical sales, where he built many meaningful relationships. </p><p>George was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 55 years, Kathleen Surprenant, and a cherished father to Julia Tucker Wood of Higganum, CT, (Matthew Wood). He was the proud Papa of Erin Tucker of Wesley Chapel, FL, and Olivia Tucker of Higganum, CT, who brought him endless joy. </p><p>He was predeceased by his siblings Claudette Horst, Terrance Surprenant, John Surprenant, and Janice Stewart, and he treasured the memories and bonds he shared with them. </p><p>An Eagle Scout, George was a dedicated Boy Scout leader for decades, serving as a mentor to countless young men and fostering their growth into leaders. His guidance, kindness, and unwavering principles left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. </p><p>His memory will be held dearly by his family and friends, and his legacy of love, leadership, and service will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Everywhere we went, everyone knew and loved George. </p><p>Anyone who knew George will remember him for his sharp wit and unforgettable sense of humor. Famous for telling colorful stories about his adventures, George always had a clever quip or a quick joke to lighten the mood. His humor brought laughter to every room and warmed the hearts of everyone he met. In his famous last words, “Drive fast, take chances”. He will surely be missed. </p><p>George’s life will be celebrated with a funeral Mass on February 1, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Norwich, CT. </p>
