<p>Helen Cecilia Basile, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully of old age on</p><p>January 23, 2025, in Yorktown Heights, NY. Born on July 31, 1941, in the Bronx, New York. She</p><p>is the child of Pasquale and Helen Capolupo. Helen's life was a testament to the power of</p><p>kindness and the strength of family bonds. She was 83 years old.</p><p><br></p><p>Helen was a graduate of St. Gabriel's High School, where she laid the foundations of a life</p><p>marked by thoughtfulness and care for others. Her professional journey included dedicated</p><p>service at Reader's Digest, where she was known for her warm demeanor and willingness to</p><p>lend a helping hand.</p><p><br></p><p>Beyond her professional accomplishments, Helen's true calling was her role as a mother to her</p><p>beloved children. Alongside the love of her life, Joseph Basile, whom she married in October 13,</p><p>1962 and who predeceased her in October 2023. Together they raised a family rooted in love</p><p>and mutual respect. Her daughter, Ellen Basile, who passed away in April 2020, was a shining</p><p>example of the values Helen instilled in her children. With Ellen having Down’s Syndrome, she</p><p>became an unwavering advocate for the advancement, opportunities, and fair treatment for</p><p>people with Down’s and other disabilities. Her sons, Paul and his wife Crystal, and Peter, as well</p><p>as her daughter Joanne and her husband John Christensen, will carry forward her legacy of</p><p>compassion and grace.</p><p><br></p><p>Helen's joy was multiplied with the addition of her grandchildren, who brought immense</p><p>happiness to her life. Kaleigh and her husband John Lanze, Joey Basile, Chloe Basile, Jack</p><p>Christensen, Joey Christensen, and Georgia Christensen will forever cherish the memories and</p><p>life lessons imparted by their caring grandmother. She is also survived by her beloved sister and</p><p>brother-in-law, Lucille and Ralph Hurd of Matthews, North Carolina. And a sister-in-law Carol</p><p>and her husband Charles Hertel of Dutchess County, New York. Additionally, she is mourned by</p><p>many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends across the United States.</p><p><br></p><p>A stalwart member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church since moving to Yorktown Heights in</p><p>1972, Helen's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. Her involvement in the church</p><p>community was just one of the many ways she extended her love and support to those around</p><p>her.</p><p><br></p><p>Those who knew Helen will remember her as the epitome of loving, generous, and thoughtful.</p><p>She had an innate ability to make everyone around her feel valued and loved. Her unwavering</p><p>support and guidance shaped the lives of her family and friends, and her absence will leave a</p><p>void in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known her.</p>
