<p>Vera Cheremeteff (nee Smirnoff), 75, of Hockessin, Delaware, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 7, 2025 (Christ’s Nativity) at the Christiana Care Hospice Center in Newark, Delaware. Vera was born in Luxembourg and immigrated to the United States with her parents and sister at the age of 3 in November 1952. Her later school years were spent in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before marrying and moving to start her family in Rochester, New York. She later moved to Delaware to reside with her son and his family after the birth of her first grandchild. She also lived with her daughter upon the birth of her first child, as well, before spending her final years cared for by Alex & Luda and family in Delaware.</p><p><br></p><p>Vera was a graduate of Olney High School in Philadelphia - Class of 1967. Besides working as a full-time wife & mother, she went on to work as a dental assistant before retiring as the office manager for Unity Health's dental clinic in Rochester. Her favorite job was that of “Babushka” - taking care of her 3 grandchildren. In addition to her family, she enjoyed drawing, coloring, taking long walks, and dog-sitting. Over the years she has enjoyed horses and her many K-9 companions.</p><p><br></p><p>Vera is survived by her son & daughter in-law; Alexander & Lyudmila Cheremeteff, 2 daughters; Arianda & Tamara Cheremeteff, her 3 beloved grandchildren; George, Katherine, and Silas, sister; Alla Bachtalowski, as well as several nieces & nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>Panikhida will begin 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, 2211 W. Landis Ave., Vineland, NJ, where her funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025. Burial will be on Saturday, January 11, 2025, 1:00 PM, at the Holy Trinity Monastery Cemetery, Jordanville, NY, (Jordanville.org).
